Phil’s Friday Thought – The Only Way Is Up!

Phil’s Friday Thought – The Only Way Is Up!

As we have swiftly moved into 2021 (you will not be missed 2020!), the results are in for how well the environment faired in the last year. The mission to end plastic pollution taken on by local, nationwide and global councils and organisations has resulted in a higher percentage of plastic recycling.

The British Plastics Association has reported that plastic recycling number are growing year on year, with the likes of 86% of packaging and 78% of post-consumer waste being recovered and recycled. As mentioned before, some plastics are easier than others to recycle, such as Polypropylene and PET.

It’s important that we all do our best to offset our own footprints. We do this in various ways such as extensive recycling schemes, striving towards a zero to landfill policy within the business, working with the best in the business to promote best practice and offer our customers recyclable and recycled materials.

Throughout the business, we separate normal and dry mixed recyclable waste. We’ve had this system in place for many years now and are proud of how well every employee maintains it. Our industrial plastic waste is separated by type, clear, printed, opaque and glued and collected our Recycling partner who then process it to be reused, not just repurposed.

A trip to Veolia (who are responsible for all general household waste in Telford and Wrekin and surrounding areas) early last year showed us how our PET and Polypropylene products can be properly identified for recycled in household recycling. All our plastics already contain recycled content, as well being able to offer 100% post-consumer recycled plastic materials too, which can still be processed in exactly the same way as virgin materials; in fact, we would challenge you to spot the difference!

We hold ISO Accreditations 9001 business management system, & 14001 environmental, which measure and ensure that we deliver on our pledge. We embrace that we have to take responsibility within the industry we are in and we’re more than happy to do so. As mentioned so many times before, plastic is not the enemy – it’s how we dispose of it that is the issue.
