New Faces at Ambro

New Faces at Ambro

New blood at Ambro – Welcome Chris & Matt

Chris – Operations Manager
After saying a fond farewell to our production manager Darren (a 30 year veteran of Ambro) at the tail end of 2016 we were faced with the task of filling his shoes.

We found the right combination of skills, energy and personality in Chris. His experience in manufacturing, quality engineering and production management together with his approachable nature made it an easy choice to offer him the job of Operations Manager.

I caught up with Chris earlier today with the paint still drying on the walls of his new office to find out a bit more about his background and his plans for a future at Ambro:

So it turns out Chris started his career in manufacturing through the (I believe) unique route of a degree in Politics. After graduating he did some soul searching and lots of travelling and returned to take a job in quality management for a local engineer. This led him in the following years to progress through other companies and roles to his previous position at a large international electrical distribution manufacturer. Whilst there he tells me he enjoyed parts of that diplomatic lifestyle he had once dreamed of, jetting off round the world to meet, greet and co-ordinate successful installs overseas in his capacity as quality assurance engineer for the Global Supply Chain. (He certainly has some stories to tell of far-flung places!)

As a Quality Assurance Engineer Chris’ experience will be vital in his new role here at Ambro. He can help us further tighten up procedures, explore new production methods and employ his lean manufacturing and ISO expertise to great effect whilst making his mark at Ambro.

We are excited to see changes made as Ambro looks to the future and to Chris to engage in his mission to ‘Work methodically to grow capacity alongside improving quality and consistency of our end products‘.

Matt – Print Manager
Hand in hand with the exciting addition of screen printing in house we have appointed Matt as Print Manager. Matt brings with him many years of experience, a keen eye for detail and a passion for great print (and great music, but thats another conversation).

Fresh from talking to Chris, I tracked down Matt hard at work in our print department to find out a little bit more about him:

Matt’s career in print started with a design course at New College Telford. He remarks that he was drawn to screen print at an early stage during his course and with encouragement from tutors he jumped in with both feet to learn the craft and never looked back. After college he completed a two year apprenticeship with a local screen printer here in Telford. After a further 4 years here  he moved on to a design company in London to head up their screen print department. Whilst here he worked on a large, long running contract for the tobacco industry. After a successful few years Matt made the move back up to Telford to work for his previous employer.

Would you believe it…they just happened to be an Ambro supplier! Fast forward a few years and Matt and 3 colleagues started up on their own with a sign and print business successfully trading for 7 years (also as suppliers for Ambro) before he felt it was time to take a different direction.

Now at Ambro, Matt is looking forward to getting stuck into developing the department and looking for ways to add value for our customers with new processes and technologies.
